Bwblin

Funding from The HELIX Programme allowed the Food Technology Centre to support Bwblin with critical shelf-life validation and comprehensive nutritional analysis for their range of raw fermented vegetables.

BACKGROUND

Based in North Wales, Bwblin is an innovative, fermented foods company dedicated to making gut-friendly, sustainable foods a part of everyday life.

Founded by Anna, the enterprise specialises in producing live, unpasteurized sauerkrauts, kimchis, and unique seasonal ferments. True to its core values of sustainability and quality, Bwblin crafts its products using exclusively organic, locally grown produce and locally sourced ingredients.

These seasonal ferments are packed with live cultures, offering a vibrant, raw product line that leads the way in the Welsh functional food and fermentation sector.

SUPPORT RECEIVED FROM FOOD TECHNOLOGY CENTRE

To ensure the safety, quality, and commercial viability of this innovative range, Anna collaborated with the Food Technology Centre to undertake rigorous technical testing and compliance reviews.

Funding from The HELIX Programme allowed the Food Technology Centre to support Bwblin with critical shelf-life validation and comprehensive nutritional analysis for their range of raw fermented vegetables. Bwblin’s products are live and unpasteurized, maintaining product stability and live culture integrity under refrigerated conditions is essential. Alongside this testing, the Centre's technical team helped Anna develop and refine Bwblin’s food safety management system (HACCP), providing the precise testing, data, and risk analysis required to confidently verify the products' shelf life, storage parameters, and production safety.

As a result of this collaborative support, Bwblin has successfully validated its product range, ensuring that consumers receive a safe, compliant, and highly nutritious product that supports gut health while championing Welsh agriculture.

BENEFITS OF THE SUPPORT

Anna, founder of Bwblin said, “The support from the Food Technology Centre and The HELIX Programme has been brilliant. As a small business owner, without any experience or knowledge in food manufacture, it often feels like I’m figuring everything out on my own, so having access to their knowledge, facilities and encouragement has made a huge difference. They've helped me explore new ideas, overcome technical challenges and given me the confidence to take Bwblin in directions I wouldn't have thought possible.”
