CAD/CAM Design

At the main campus in Bangor we have the facilities to design and promote your product using state of the art CAD/CAM technology showing realistic images and video clips without the need to manufacture. This cost-effective facility enables the product designer to create packaging or indeed tool parts without the expense of going through the trial and error of manufacturing a prototype.

The Faculty of Technology possesses some of the most advanced industrial software and prototype manufacture systems which provide valuable assistance with the development of products, processes and packaging.

Photo realistic 3D models of products and packaging can be viewed on screen enabling the designer to study them in detail before moving on to creating the finished product., as well as observing the design and analysis of process equipment and components. Other facilities include the design and analysis of the packaging and tooling as well as the prototype manufacture of tools, dies, moulds, process equipment and components.

Depending on the product, designers can vacuum-form polymers or weld and fabricate in a range of materials -including stainless steel and polymers. To complete the product design, tensile and compressive testing can be carried out as well as tests to identify the hardness of the product.

Product and prototype design and manufacture using CAD/CAM and solid-modelling are just two areas of expertise available at the Faculty of Technology.

The material and structural analysis together with the friction, lubrication and wear of the product can also be carried out, together with statistical analysis of the product and the process design.

Developing new products or processes in the food technology industry without the need to manufacture is a significant advantage and time-saving solution in the launch of brand new products.
